3.jpgI know Sandusky isn’t really Northeast Ohio, but I spend a lot of time up there and couldn’t resist sharing this exciting new endeavour.

We keep our sailboat at  Sadler Sailing Basin in downtown Sandusky and have a cottage on East Harbor in Lakeside-Marblehead. Last week when visiting Marblehead Lighthouse (married there in 2004!) I picked-up a flyer for the East Sandusky Bay Water Trail. How cool is this!? In the era of suburban sprawl, unmanaged development, gigantic jetskis and super-sized power boats, I’m excited that Ohio is designating a blueway trail to promote eco-tourism on our beautiful lakefront.Marblehead Lighthouse Wedding

I have been thinking about getting my own kayak…

After visiting the George Jones Memorial Farm and the Oberlin Farmer’s Market, my class took a lunch break in downtown Oberlin at The Black River Café. I wish they had a website for me to link here, sadly they do not. My guess is that all of their efforts are dedicated to gathering and preparing delicious meals from locally grown foods, fresh organic produce, antibiotic-free and pastured animal products from area farms. Based on the lunch-time line out the door and the 10-15 minute wait, I don’t think The Black River Café needs any marketing to promote thier business!

The café offeres vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as traditional meat items such as burgers and sandwhiches. I selected a fresh cheese, pepper and spinach omelet for my lunch/breakfast, while my classmates ordered a turkey club on a croissant and a big, beautiful club salad. The food was so good! Not hardly a word was spoken during our meal as we were all so delighted by the presentation adn taste of our food. All you heard as we ate was an, “Mmmmmm!” or a mouth-filled query, “My food is delicious. How’s yours?”

The Black River Café is a highly recommended breakfast or lunch destination for anyone interested in dining on locally grown and raised foods. Get there early – they close at 3pm!
